Obituary for Grant Arlow Olson

Grant Olson of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away quietly on Friday, July 25, 2014, after a short fight with cancer. He was 74 years young. Grant was born on December 4, 1939 in Stoughton Wisconsin to Alverda and Giles Olson He has 6 brothers and sisters. He grew up in Stoughton on his family's farm and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1958. In November of 1959 he married Sandra Weiland at Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Janesville, Wisconsin.
Grant served his country for two years in the United States Army, where he and Sandra lived in Texas and Germany.
Grant and Sandra had three children; Steven, James, and daughter Susan and three grandchildren; Shannon, Halley and Parker.
Grant and his Family moved to a farm just outside of Stoughton where they grew tobacco. Grant always had projects and hobbies to keep him busy, including the 36 years he worked for Ohio Medical in quality control, retiring in 2001. In the winter of 2001, he and Sandra moved to Fairfield Bay, and he was almost immediately approached to be a volunteer ambulance driver with Fairfield Bay Rescue Squad, which he loved and dedicated 12 years of service until his illness. He was also a volunteer at the Hippe Recycling Center and an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Edgemont, Arkansas.
One of his greatest pleasures was fishing year round from his boat slip. Grant also loved hunting, spending time with his wife and friends and took up golf and traveling the country with Sandra and their dog, Chui, in his retirement years.
Grant is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Grant is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; his three children, three grandchildren and his dog Chui. He is also survived by his loving brothers and sisters: Nancy Pettis (Everett), Sammy Olson, Judy Wilson (Rick), Donna Anderson, David (Rocky) Olson (Kathy), and Ritchie Olson (Linda) as well as many loving nieces, nephews and many friends who will miss him dearly.
Grant left a void so big it seems impossible to fill. Those who knew and loved him will spend their time filling it with wonderful memories of his kindness, selflessness, humor and joy of life.
A celebration of his life will be held on August 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at Peace Lutheran Church of Edgemont.
